Richard’s family has been part of Phoenix for three generations. He grew up in the inner city of southwest Phoenix and came from a humble family. He recognizes his roots and the importance of family in playing a role in him becoming the first college graduate. Richard was always a serious student, partly because he is competitive by nature, but mostly because he wanted his family to be proud and his friends to see him as a positive role model. He did well in high school graduating No. 4 in his class. In college he did even better, graduating magna cum laude where he was on the Dean’s Honors List and in the Honors Program. Out of ASU’s nearly 44,000 students at the time, about 2100 of whom were Hispanic, Richard was named the “Outstanding Hispanic Undergraduate of the Year” at ASU’s 7th Annual Hispanic Convocation for his community involvement and academic achievements. He received numerous scholarships and awards for his scholastic success, including the prestigious Valdemir Cordova Scholarship to attend Arizona State University, College of Law. After graduating from law school and passing the State Bar, Richard immediately began practicing civil and criminal law. Richard understands the importance of being involved in the community and to help those who cannot speak for themselves. Using his education, experience, and knowledge of the law, he advocates and fights for the rights of his clients.

Richard is authorized to practice in all courts in Arizona and in the United States District Court (District of Arizona). He is a member of the State Bar of Arizona, the Arizona Trial Lawyers Association, Maricopa County Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, and the Hispanic Bar Association (Los Abogados). He also serves on the Board of Directors for a grassroots community arts organization, Cultural Coalition.

To help law students in financial need, Richard has established the Law Office of Richard Castillo Endowment Scholarship in conjunction with Arizona State University, Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law.

Richard was also invited to be part of the “Top American Lawyers” and the “American Institute of Personal Injury Attorneys.
